My First Time…

I liked waxing my underarms so much that I decided to try waxing other areas of my body...

...and we are talking about a BRAZILIAN WAX.

It's always something I've always wanted to try but never had to the guts to... Until recently. I decided to check out another place for this 'purrfect indulgence' - Pink Parlour (Liang Court).

Welcome to Pink Parlor...

Welcome to Pink Parlor...

The magic happens behind that wall (where you see the rows of nail polish)

So this where us girls go to to spoil ourselves... (Of course, there's always something for the boys - if you're man enough, get the Boyfriend's Brazilian aka the Boyzilian!)

Sure, they provide the norm such as facial and body treatments, manicure + pedicure and make sure you're primp & trim you from head-to-toe... but what's cool is that you can also throw a party in the salon!

Here, you can have a Movie Nite (from $78++) and enjoy a Princess Manicure/Pedicure treatment:

I think it's great that they provide this kind of service. Having a girls' night in, get your nails done, watch 'Gossip Girl' or your choice chick flick. YES, they provide that too!

So what's the whole procedure like if you want to get a Brazilian wax?

It's only hygienic to take a quick shower/rinse before you go for waxing! I believe other beauty parlors will only provide you with some wet tissues... At Pink Parlour, they have a shower facility.

Ready to go for my brazilian wax. I'm a little nervous!

There are 2 seats in this techny looking shower so you can share enjoy a steam bath with a friend. Pretty neat, huh?

I wonder if couples have ever gone for waxing together... Hmmmmm.

I wonder if couples have ever gone for waxing together... Hmmmmm.

So here's how it went down...

I laid on the bed and pulled up my robe. I'd be lying if I said I wasn't embarrassed... I mean, I hadn't shaved for over a week!

Wendy, my therapist, gave me a 'comfort pillow' for support. You know, like how you would hold your teddy bear if you were scared when you were a little kid? That's the idea.

I could tell she was trying to distract me from what she was doing by chatting with me, asking some random questions. She had this huge lamp positioned near my you-know-what. It had a a big magnifying glass thing on it and she was basically spreading the hard wax down there, preparing me for one of the first (of many) hard wax strips.

She started from the top - which was quick & bearable, until she moved downwards, towards the more sensitive area. I started to get more comfortable with Wendy and the way she handled things. But I cringed each time she was about to pull out the hard wax.

It felt like a hard, hot slap (that almost sounded dirty!). But the pain lasted for less than a second.

I appreciated how Wendy kept the conversation going, which helped to keep me relaxed and not think so much about what's going on. Before I knew it, it was all done. That's it. That was it.

To be honest I expected it to be more painful than it really was!

Time to clean up and change ;)

Time to clean up and change ;)

It was baby-smooth. Amazing. I love it! I'll be back in a few weeks! So long, Shaver!

*     *     *     *     *

(2 weeks later....)

It wasn't easy finding a guy man enough to take up the next challenge. My friend, Charles, wanted to prove that he'll take on any dare. And that includes... a BOYZILIAN WAX.

Here's what he has to say when the day came:

So he took a quick shower, changed into a robe and prepared himself to face Hell.

"My heart is beating out of my chest right now."

"My heart is beating out of my chest right now."

Look at him! You could tell Charles was really, really nervous.

So I waited outside. Waaaaiting to hear him yell.

While waiting outside, I noticed that the doors were all named after a drink... Interesting. Charles is in Sangria. Sounded like he was getting along very well with Wendy. She's doing a great job. He didn't even scream!

45 minutes later...

The deed is done!

The deed is done!

His exact words were: "I can't believe I did IT. Feels weird... It's like, SO smooth!"

His exact words were: "I can't believe I did IT. Feels weird... It's like, SO smooth!"

I think he's pleased with the results. Can you tell?

Do you know any guy who's done a boyzilian?

If you're a guy, would you do it?

AFTERCARE

I bought the 'Bump Eraser'($78) from Caron, which was said to be the most popular product sold at Pink Parlor.

bump-eraser-caron

I've been using it for a little more than 2 weeks now and I can see why it's popular. The skin on my underarms feel and look smoother. It has helped to slow down the hair growth too. I used it on my legs as well when I shave and it helps to smooth out the little bumps (from ingrown hair), especially on the back on my thigh.

The only downer is that it's a little pricey. But it does the job.

Charles got the aftercare lotion with tea tree oil (also from Caron), which can also be used for sunburn, minor cuts and insect bites. Pretty handy to have.

I hate to say this, but if you're still using the shaver... you're missing out.

If you DO decide to try-out this life-changing experience, Pink Parlour was kind enough to give a coupon for me to share with my readers, so you can EXPERIENCE your first time with someone:

May Lowe would like to share with you what she has for breakfast...

"My breakfast is an old greek dessert. Its greek yogurt with honey, almonds (nut) and pistachios."

The yogurt and almonds may sound healthy but is it filling? You need lots of protein in the morning, girl! Try having something else to go along with that. And I sure hope you don't eat that everyday...

Thanks May!

Hello, Hello?

It puts a smile on my face when I get emails from readers of my blog because I always wonder why people seldom comment on my posts. I appreciate that at least some people are thoughtful enough to send me a personal note :)

If you enjoy reading my blog, show me some love by leaving a comment on my posts!

Have you ever been alone at home and sometimes hear strange sounds coming from the living room and you know that there's no one else at home but you? Do you attempt to drown out the sounds with music but can't help but put it on mute when you hear it getting louder? When you do actually stop to listen, it's all silent. Is it just in your head? I have to admit, I've been more paranoid since I saw that movie 'Paranormal Activity'. It wasn't super shocking, I didn't even scream when I saw the movie, it's not like one of those cheap horror movies where they scare you with build-up music and sound effect. But the whole concept and ending of the movie really made me wonder if there really is something else out there. THINGS happening when I'm sound asleep. Creepy. Very, very creepy.

This movie made me more paranoid at night. Thanks, Spielberg.

FYI, did you know that this movie cost $11,000 to make but already made more than $88 million since it came out a few weeks ago?

The Health Benefits of Massage: Skinlab Medical Spa at Liang Court

I like going for a massage every once in a while but if I really wanted to feel more refreshed, I'd see a chiropractor. Do you have a habit of cracking your neck/arms/back/fingers/other joints? Feels good, doesn't it? Well it's actually bad for you because you are actually tightening the knots of your nerves and this affects your blood flow which leads to muscle aches and headaches. Chiropractic adjustment does not only treat joint pain (especially on your neck and/or back), it also helps to reduce stress, headache and boosts your immune system. This procedure is done by first relaxing the muscles with a massage, followed by quick and precise chiropractic adjustments to the targeted areas. Every pull sounds like someone stepping on a bubble wrap... Imagine that. In SOME movies, this is exactly how someone gets assassinated.

However, it's not as bad as you imagine it to be. I've had it done twice on my whole body and it literally felt like I just came back from a long holiday/spa and my body felt revived and full of energy. There is a lot to it, but I'll leave the explaining to the real chiropractors. I am not trying to promote anything here, but I do know a couple of chiropractors so if you are interested, leave comment with your email.

Not all of us can afford chiropractic treatment or would even consider giving it a try, that's why another popular way to rejuvenate your body is by going for a MASSAGE. After a long day at work and sitting at your desk and/or running around in heels, a good massage is the perfect way to wind down and pamper your body...

SkinLab Medical Spa is the culmination of the vision, dynamism and expertise of our in-house doctor; Dr Kelvin Chua, who wanted to integrate the pampering, attentive yet unobtrusive service of a world class spa with the most advanced, non-invasive medical techniques to provide effective beauty solution to treat mind, body and soul.

With the certified, experienced beauty therapists performing facials, body treatments and massages, SkinLab Medical Spa was awarded Best Value by Simply Her Magazine, for its signature treatment, I2PL Permanent Hair Removal, I2PL Facial Rejuvenation, Gentle Milk Exfoliation Facial, and Body Contour RF.

The dedicated team of SkinLab always works with the utmost professionalism and the greatest respect for each and every individual, promising a feeling of tranquility, serenity and relaxation.

Going for my Javanese massage!

skinlab-cosmetic-spa

Some of the benefits of a massage include reducing stress, release muscle tension (from weight training or other exercises), improve blood circulation and overall health. While most spas have a shower facility so you can rinse off after your massage, my massage therapist, Rogaya, recommended not to as ideally, you'd want to keep the oils on for as long as possible to allow your skin to fully absorb its therapeutic effect and get in as deep as possible for maximum results. If you must take a shower, it should be warm in order to maintain good circulation, otherwise, make sure you use a towel to wipe off excess oil from your skin so you won't leave grease on your office chair.

Drinking a glass of water every hour or so after your massage will help to flush out all the toxins in your blood stream. The body tends to build up metabolic waste and various toxins that get trapped and stored in-between the soft tissue areas. These wastes and toxins are often pushed into the blood stream and the lymphatic system during a massage (where they belong).

If you don't drink enough water, you may get a headache from all of the toxins in your blood stream once it reaches your brain or it will simply resettle within your body as internal waste once again.

Review of the massage: While the massage was relaxing and energizing, I would have preferred to have it done in a more natural environment as the massage room felt bare and temperature cold. I found myself being interrupted from dozing off when the water tap from the room next door was turned on as it sounded like as if somebody was using the restroom; which made me feel like I wanted to use the bathroom! Other than that, the staff were all warm and friendly and I can see why both women AND men would go for a regular visit to SkinLab.

Mention my name and enjoy your choice of 60 minute massage with complimentary spa bath for only $68 (U.P.$98).

Bikini Fever!

While some people in other parts of the world are starting to LAYER their clothes, I'm glad that it's summer in Singapore all year long. Almost.

Trying out the bikini I got from YesStyle.com

It's been raining quite a bit here. I miss the sun! Been wanting to check out the new hot spot in Sentosa called WAVEHOUSE.

Making My Own Halloween Costume 2009

Halloween is my favorite event of the year because this is the time when everyone can dress up as their alter ego or put on a character... which makes partying more than twice as fun.

I wished I was in Key West, FL, where they have Fantasy Fest and everyone dresses up everyday for the whole week of Halloween. Then again, partying in Singapore is also fun, especially when you have all your friends to celebrate it with you. My sister came back to Singapore for 4 days before going back to Tokyo on Sunday. Both of us didn't enjoy staying in Singapore very much while we were growing up here, but after traveling/living in other countries, we really began to appreciate it so much more... ♥

Anyway, last year's (2008) Halloween at Mimolette was so much fun... I dressed up as a military nurse:

halloween-costumes-2008

I bought the costume in Bangkok (Platinum Wholesale Shopping Mall) for about S$50. It's funny how you won't find a sex store in Bangkok but they sell so many sexy costumes such as this for a much lower price than what you will find at any other sex stores. I have about 20 costumes, some I've already worn but still intend to keep, and some that are just waiting to be worn for the perfect occasion. What can I say? I love themed parties.

I was really getting bored of all the costumes I saw online so I came up with an ingenious idea of making my own.

-  FRIDAY NIGHT HALLOWEEN DRESS-UP -

My inspiration?

Princess Jasmine from Aladdin:

disney-princess-jasmine

Dawn tagged a photo of Princess Jasmine as me on Facebook a while back and after watching the DVD again recently, it's hard not to want to be a princess for a day. Hehe.

That cartoon is then translated to...

Aladdin & Princess Jasmine

I bought the chiffon fabric from a store on Arab Street for just $3/m. The bikini is from River Island (which I already had initially), earrings  from Diva (S$15) and the blue jewel piece is from Spotlight.

My sister (was dressed as a wine lady a.k.a. 'Fine Red Wine') and I went to Mimolette on Friday night for the 'Asian Damnation' party (Asian horror theme). Even Aladdin was there! ;)

princess-jasmine-costumeAsian Horror Theme at Mimolettestar-trekthe-flintstones-costumehalloween-mimolette

Alot of people were dressed up, considering it was only the eve of Halloween. I love how Mimolette always never fail to surprise me for Halloween.

My sister, Alyssa, & I dropped by Butterfactory before going home (it was along the way, really) and I don't remember seeing anyone there dressed up that Friday night...

- SATURDAY NIGHT HALLOWEEN DRESS-UP -

My inspiration?

Slave Princess Leia from Star Wars:

slave-princess-leia

This is then translated to...

Obi-Wan Kenobi & Princess Leia

I bought the chiffon fabric from Spotlight for $9.95/m! I am never going back there again. If you want to buy cheap fabric to make your costume, go to Arab Street. It's like a treasure hunt! The gold bikini & belt are from a shop at Far East Plaza, snake earrings are from Diva, boots are from YesStyle.com and the (Victoria's Secret) silk robe was something I already had. I made the neck chain thing with a slim gold belt and some gold chain.

5 of my friends (4 of them are DJs) and I organized a junk boat party to kickstart our Halloween night. It's probably the first ever junk boat party in Singapore. Junk boat parties are huge in Hong Kong & San Francisco and unlike these countries, it's summer in Singapore all year long, so this is definitely something that is needed to make our nightlife more interesting. We had about 140 of our close friends and we all had a great time. It drizzled a bit and I was so sad that we didn't manage to catch the sunset. However, we did get to see the beautiful fireworks and colorful musical fountain show at the Sentosa. I hope everyone had a splendid time!

After the cruise, we went to stereolab for more fun.

After stereolab, a group of friends and I headed to Butterfactory to catch up with some friends.

Obviously, these guys were inspired by their own bedroom. The Hoover Vacuum Girl came up to me and said she was a fan of my blog. How sweet :) ...and what a creative idea!

This was taken at about 1.30am. Alyssa had a flight back to Tokyo to catch at 6am :(

It was so crowded at Butterfactory and EVERYBODY was dressed up. Oh, I love Halloween.
