Sad to read about your data loss. Not synching your device to a computer left you without a backup.

I us Microsoft office, and sych everything with Outlook, I am sure there are utilities for backing up an iCal that should have been made known in the discussion group.

You did not mention such and that leads me to assume Apple left you without a solution, other than to switch to Windows 7 and the multitude of devices that will synch with Win 7.
