First Taste: Macarons from Ladurée
Ahh! My girl Helen just got some macarons from Ladurée just for me! Well, for us
Thanks baby.
The French macaron — Ingredients: ground almonds, sugar, egg white and ganache filling. Damage: 70 calories for the fruit-based mini ones and up to 250 calories for for a large chocolate or nut-based macaron with chocolate ganache. High in saturated fat and a large portion of the calories in a macaron come from sugars. Why we love it: This artisanal snootiness is what I think will save the macaron from the fate of the cupcake — once fêted as the loveliest of novelties. Anyone can make near-commercial-standard cupcakes — and you can buy cute, cheap versions in supermarkets. Macaroons are different: although you can make them at home they come out nothing like those on offer at Ladurée or Pierre Hermé.
Verdict: A tasty, sugary sweet treat but nothing I (personally) can't live without.

just to let you know, it’s “macaron”, not macaroon. macaroons are coconut cookies.
