The First Thing I Gotta Say…

See You Soon, Sarah!

Things have been pretty hectic for me as of late as I'm finding my time in KL more eventful these days. I'm definitely starting to feel like the city is finally opening up to me and well I gotta say, it's about time. I took the plunge when I decided to move to KL from Singapore around August last year. To be honest during the first 5 months, things seemed uncertain. It was like starting all over again... Making new friends, building up a network and finding a job/something I enjoyed doing. It was more of an inconvenience than an issue the way I see it.

I was about ready to move back to Singapore in January as the unpredictability started to overcome my adventurous nature. My insecurities kept nagging at me asking "What the hell are you doing here?" Yeah, what was I doing here? I didn't quite have a plan. I'd jump on any opportunity to live somewhere else for the thrill of it because I've always depended on this faithful assurance deep inside that's confident in knowing that I'll find something to do no matter what. Someone I look up to once said to me, "Que sera, sera" (Whatever happens, happens). It's better to have tried and failed than regret not doing it and wonder what could have been.

I was ready to accept the reality that maybe it just wasn't meant to be. But just before the end of December, I got a call from a local radio station and was offered a job to do a small segment on the morning show and share Hollywood entertainment news. That was so up in my alley. I actually went for the casting more than a month before I got that call. I mean, it had been so long that I thought I didn't get it.

Man, I can't tell you how stoked I was after I put down the phone. Beyond. It was a sure sign that I should stay.

Which brings me to this girl, Sarah Lian. She's been such a gem and truly one of the most genuine people I know working in the entertainment industry. She's been welcoming and I'm grateful for all the help and guidance she's given me since I met her last year.

Sarah's left KL now and moving back to Canada to pursue her career. I have no doubt that she'll do well in anything she puts her mind into, especially with that very likeable personality and dynamic attitude she has. I can't thank you enough, Sarah. You've been such a great friend.

At Sarah's farewell party last Saturday.

To end this note, I just want to say - Never be too afraid, shy or insecure to put yourself out there. Do what you gotta do. It's never easy but it's usually worth it.

The Best Cough Syrup EVER! …And Other Updates.

Nin jiom pei pa koa is the best cough syrup ever! Super effective, doesn't make you drowsy nor taste bad unlike other medicines...

I was in Singapore for a few days last week to see my friends and visit my grandfather at the hospital. He was admitted on Tuesday because he suffered a stroke due to a blood clot in his brain. The doctor said at first that if his condition didn't improve, he'd only have 1 week to live. All my relatives came down to see him, including my sister who lives in Japan. It was pretty much like a family reunion, everyone was there to show him their support. I was nice to see the whole family.

When I saw my grandy, the right half of his body was paralyzed and he could barely talk. I could see the pain in his eyes and it was heartbreaking to watch. But on Friday, he was able to lift his right arm and move his legs. His condition was vastly improving. By Saturday, he did therapy and he managed to get up by himself and walk. It was amazing to see how fast he was improving and how strong he is. I am so proud of him.

I left for KL the next day with a piece of mind, confident that he'll get better. I'll be going back to see him again in a week so I really hope he'll be discharged from the hospital by then.

Decided to get a tan this morning, it's been about a year since I got my tan on. Blame on the fact that modeling/talent agencies kept insisting that I stay away from the sun and try to stay fair. Asia.

*     *     *     *     *

So I was at the pool for 2 hours earlier and boy, had I forgotten how easily I tan! I've got 3 shades of color on my butt because I forgot to properly adjust my bikini bottom... God, I hate tanlines. And now for an update from my Blackberry camera...

Earlier today... Hawaiian Tropic tanning lotion is awesome.

Gym at the rooftop of my apartment...

I took the LRT from KL Sentral the other day for the first time!

Strangely, the cabins were pretty empty on a Tuesday at around 9.30am. I guess more people take the monorail.

Copped another one of Charles's protein bar. This one's pretty yummy. Good to carry around if you're going to be busy all day and need a meal replacement.

This is what I usually use for cooking pasta...

Pretty good wine! Very nice for a chill night-in.

Ribena with longan. A sweet treat! Albeit too sweet for my liking...

Saw 'BJ Saloon' as I was driving around town. Sounds pretty dodgy, no?

2 Things I Find Hard To Refuse…

1. Sarawak Laksa from a hawker in Bangsar

2. Pick-n-mix candies!

...but only when I deserve it the most. A treat is a treat because you don't have it all the time!

So I haven't been watching my food intake carefully last week and gained 5lbs in a blink of an eye. Meh. Aunt Flo might be a contributing factor to the sudden weight gain (mostly water retention). For some reason, I feel like this is a dejavu because I'm pretty sure I've whined about a similar situation every other month.

I envisioned myself working out on the elliptical machine for 45 minutes last night (yes, I think about what I'm going to do the next day before I go to bed) but today I'm really not feelin' it so I'm very likely to skip the gym.

Feeling moody and really wished I had a pick-n-mix. Instead, I just had a handful of baked almonds and a huge bottle of water. Nothing much to complain about, at least I don't feel guilty about it as I would after finishing a bag of candies.

Stay stoked and motivated, guys. If you're not hitting the gym today like me, make sure you're at least eating healthy.

Down & Dirty

Here are some photos from a shoot I did for Mirrors magazine on Sunday night, coming out in the March issue. It was the first time I got dirt and grime all over me for a shoot and I must admit it was pretty cool (and sexy). Just something about getting dirty...

More photos after the issue comes out...

Speaking of getting dirty, don't forget to tune in to Hitz.fm tomorrow morning and get Down & Dirty with me as I fill you in on the hottest Hollywood entertainment news!

CLIVE Magazine Cover Shoot for Feb 2011

Some behind-the-scenes photos from the covershoot for CLIVE Magazine (Feb 2011 issue)! I had so much fun at this shoot. They used a projector to project images against the white wall to create different backgrounds and feel.

The wardrobe was also very unique and I especially liked this one:

Voluminous hair!

Editor of CLIVE magazine, Robert Chan.

With the CLIVE crew.

With my make-up artist, Ming.

Thanks for having me on the cover, CLIVE!

"There's nothing wrong with having a strong habit of exercise but when it becomes destructive to your mental well being and the rest of your life, you really have a sense check your priorities. I proudly pig out on Nando's (with extra fries) once a week because you know what, it makes me a little happy! Extra hot sauce people, it's to die for."

"Anything can be addictive if that's all you live for. If you live for someone, you'll feel 'addicted' and end up being too 'clingy' which is bad for a relationship. Same with chocolate, you can be addicted to it and crave for it everyday to the detriment of your health, but the difference is, chocolates are good with relationships."

Get your copy of CLIVE to read the whole interview! ;)

Finally Back In The Gym!

The last time I worked out was before Christmas! Had been down with cough+flu and my body was so weak that I even fainted in the train once that weekend (it didn't help that I skipped breakfast AND was on my period). It was the worse feeling EV-ER.

Been starting to feel a little flabby and this persistent cough+flu is definitely taking its time to go away. That didn't stop me from hitting the gym yesterday though, finally! My first workout of the year! Did 10 mins cardio, shoulder workout and 12 mins rowing. Woke up this morning with my body thanking me with soreness.

Question of the day comes from Sophie:

She asks: What is the best exercise to flatten belly?

The best way is less carbs, more cardio and overall resistance training. Abs workouts should be a primary exercise while you work on the more important muscle groups such as legs, back and shoulders. Check out the Explode Program and you will notice that I didn't set a day for just doing abs. You need to work on your whole body to flatten your tummy. Ever seen a guy with flabby arms and a flat tummy? Nope. Best exercise? Ab workout of the month for October. If that's too hardcore for you, try using the workout ball.

NYE Celebration @ Fullerton Bay Hotel + Birthday @ Filter Club

Last year, Rachel invited me to celebrate NYE at Fullerton Hotel and that was fun but this year, Tiffany got a suite at the Fullerton Bay Hotel so we got to watch an amazing view of the fireworks from the balcony! It was so much more spectacular as we were closer to the bay and the fireworks.

I invited Helen to spend the New Years weekend with me so she won't be bored in KL. I'm pretty sure NYE in Singapore is  bigger than in KL. Counting down in a club is just won't do!

Oh yes, if you're interested in doing pilates, Song (far right) teaches at Pilates Flow. Check it out! I have yet to try pilates...

I wasn't kidding about being sick. Both Helen and I. We even tried the whisky and warm water 'trick' but it didn't really help much (the next morning we were still coughing in bed like an old couple). Although, we did forget that we even had a cough when we were partying that night because we were too busy having fun.

Watching fireworks by the bay... Amazing!

*     *     *     *     *

We went to Filter the next night for Langan's birthday. Nice shirt, by the way! It said "I like girls that like girls".

Helen wasn't the only one from KL who came to Singapore to party... So did Henry and Hansen! Total riot.

♡     ♡     ♡     ♡    ♡

Liv was also visiting Singapore that weekend for NYE. If she looks familiar to you, you may have seen her on my previous post about a dress I wore from Joanne Kitten (available on YesStyle). She's been a model for that brand for 4 years now. She's also modeled for one of my favorite brands - a Japanese version of Victoria's Secret called Ravijour.

Happy New Year to everyone, I hope you had a fun & memorable time too.

Dresses vs Skirts + Tops

My YesStyle package came last week and I am so lovin' this baby blue top+floral print skirt outfit! I've always been a one piece dress kinda girl because it's complete and easy and throw on but recently I've been shopping for more skirts and tops and have found it to be more rewarding to mix and match. Am I just spoiled or do you also dread wearing the same dress twice?

Set: Ruffled Blouse + Floral Print Skirt

Mix + Match! I paired the ruffled blouse with a navy blue mini skirt and a beret for a more preppy look.

Country girl: The floral print skirt with an off-shoulder white top and a tie-up belt is more girly and was exactly what I wore to a casting today. Love it!

P.S. Speaking of floral, have you seen this new music video by Rihanna called 'Only Girl (In The World)'? It's my favorite track of the week, check it out!
