Breakfast Foods – Flip

A reader would like to share with you his breakfast food... apparent his most importantly meal of the day.

It includes:
half a bowl of whole grain cereal
yogurt on top of the cereal
2 scoops of whey protein
and COL+ colostrum mixed in the protein drink

(about 5grams of fat, 800 calories, 60grams of protein, 80grams of carbs)

Sounds DELICIOUS! Perhaps choosing  plain yogurt would provide better health benefits and reduce your sugar intake since you are already getting that from the cereal. I personally find eating a small cup of plain yogurt more beneficiary than flavored ones every once in a while.

Breakfast Foods – Michael Yeung

"GNC is way too expensive in Singapore! This is my "poor man's" pre and post workout shake. Delicious..." - Michael Yeung

His shake consists of:

450 ml of skimmed milk (can be substituted with soy milk or water)
2 tablespoons of reduced fat peanut butter
1 teaspoon of instant coffee beans

3 tablespoons of lowfat or no fat yogurt (vanilla or plain yogurt usually goes best because with the peanut butter banana and coffee the taste is already quite strong. I wouldn't recommend going with a fruity flavored yogurt.)
1 banana
a handful of granola (the more you grab, the thicker the shake will be.)
4-6 ice cubes
Makes about 18-20ozs,
blend away!

May Lowe would like to share with you what she has for breakfast...

"My breakfast is an old greek dessert. Its greek yogurt with honey, almonds (nut) and pistachios."

The yogurt and almonds may sound healthy but is it filling? You need lots of protein in the morning, girl! Try having something else to go along with that. And I sure hope you don't eat that everyday...

Thanks May!

Eggs: What’s The Damage?

Yummy Eggs!

Alot of people have eggs for breakfast - be it scrambled eggs, poached eggs or simply plain sunny side up. Eggs are very high in nutrients and energy with ample amount of vitamins such as Vitamin A (important for good night vision, general cell growth & healthy skin) and Vitamin E (an antioxidant that works well with Vitamin C and selenium to prevent damage to your body from free radicals), proteins and fats.

One egg contains over 6grams of protein and several nutrients, which is excellent for our body. However, one egg also contains about 212 mg of cholesterol. Since the recommendation for cholesterol consumption is about 300 mg per day, the large amount of cholesterol in eggs may prevent many people from eating them.

The cholesterol in eggs really shouldn't scare you away completely. Most of the cholesterol in your body is made by your liver and the amount of cholesterol in your diet may not have as big an impact on your blood cholesterol as people once thought. In fact, you can eat one egg every day without harming your cholesterol and other blood-fat levels. That's really good news because eggs are very satisfying. Eating one egg as part of a healthy breakfast may help you lose weight by keeping you from getting hungry later in the morning.

One egg has about 80 calories with more than five grams of fat, so keep that in mind if you need to watch your fat and calorie intake. One egg each day is good, but eating three or four eggs every day may add too much fat.
