Beat The Jet Bloat

Feeling bloated in a flight?

I wished I could express how much I truly dislike going on a flight... It's probably as much as mosquitos. Hmm, well, mosquitos are much worse but you get the idea.

The reason why I dislike air traveling is JET BLOAT.

Yes, yes, I am sure we all experience this - you suddenly feel like you have so much gas in your stomach and the longer the flight, the worse it gets.

Did you know that most people carry about 400 milliliters of gas in their intestinal area? That's about the volume of a small cantaloupe! The good news is, most of the time, the passing of the "jet bloat gas" is usually odorless as it is due to excessive air.

How do you prevent the buildup of gas in your stomach?

Avoid foods that are known to cause a lot of gas before your flight such as fried foods, beans, bananas, cabbage, brussels sprouts or broccoli and stay away from caffeinated drinks. Drink plenty of water or beverages rich is electrolytes such as tomato or fruit juices.

Personally, a small cup of warm water or tea does the trick for a quick relief. Also remember to eat slowly when you're eating on the plane so you don't swallow too much air. Always remember to keep drinking water to avoid your throat from feeling dry.

One more thing to remember - it is wise to bring a moisturizer as your skin also tend to turn dry. Sucking on candy or chewing on gum will also help you to reduce the pressure in your ears while the plane is ascending.
