Herbed Pasta with Smoked Salmon

Lunch I made the other day – which was fairly simple to make.

Just steam the broccoli in the rice cooker while cooking the pasta. Drain the pasta once it’s cooked and heat up the saucepan with some extra virgin olive oil. Sauté the pasta and then sprinkle the ‘Herb & Garlic’ seasoning with it. Serve on a plate with the smoked salmon on top and steamed broccoli on the side.

I’ve been drinking 2 glasses of warm lemon water every morning for over a week and it’s doing wonders to my digestive system, skin and appetite! If you drink coffee every morning, try giving warm lemon water a try this week – it makes a good form of laxative too 😉

Being A Vegan For Lunch: Trying out Real Food Cafe

Stumbled upon Real Food Café while I was on my way to a meeting with Nuffnang back in Singapore. So I managed to convince Huiwen and Amanda to have lunch and our meeting there 😛

All-vegetarian food @ Real Food
The set-up was simple, cosy and typically like every other organic stores...
To be honest, we only realized that it was a vegan restaurant upon reading everything on the menu. There were no fish, chicken or meat in any of the dishes!
Huiwen & Amanda both tried the Mushroom Aglio Olio (SGD7.80) which they found to be surprisingly tasty and filling.
They also tried the Organic Lemonade and Organic Cola carbonated drink (SGD4.00 each). You can choose to add a scoop of vegan ice-cream with the Organic Cola or Creaming Soda, but this time, the girls didn't feel like pigging out!

I had the Pesto Pasta (SGD8.80) and Wheatgrass Apple juice (SGD4.60). I wouldn't say it was mind-blowing but I did like the French beans with my pasta.

The dish could use a little bit more flavor – perhaps some garlic would do the trick. I sprinkled a little too much seasoning on it (I think it was paprika powder…) which made it tastier but my stomach was burning by the time I finished everything on the plate. I should really take my doctor’s advice and lay off the spicy food until my acid reflux has gone down. But man, I just can’t live without spice.

The Wheatgrass Apple juice was recommended by the waitress and I liked it. It tasted more like apple juice than wheatgrass but was certainly refreshing.

Thoughts: While the food is reasonably priced, the dishes are fairly easy to prepare for yourself at home. Everything on the menu is so healthy that they don’t even do fries! It’s nice to see that there’s finally an organic vegan restaurant in town, perhaps they’ll bring Whole Foods to Singapore too? Although, I highly doubt it as the prices will be insane.

Speaking of which, would I be vegan if I wanted to? The answer is yes. But I don’t think I’m ready to commit on giving up fish and chicken. I could maybe try it out for a week though. We’ll see about that.

KL, when are you going to catch up and start opening up more healthy restaurant/cafe spots?

Real Foods is located at Central (Clarke Quay) at#B1-52/53.

NIKE Spring 2011 Launch @ Naumi Hotel Suite

I was in Singapore the other day and attended the NIKE Spring 2011 Launch at Naumi Hotel Suite.

It was an intimate, private event for a few selected bloggers to introduce their new Spring/Summer 2011 collection.
Introducing the classic Cortez shoe (prices range from $79 - $95) - Nike's first revolutionary running shoe designed by athlete and track & field coach, Bill Bowerman. It makes total sense that the best running shoes are designed by athletes themselves. You may find this shoe familiar if you've seen 'Forrest Gump'.

One of his memorable quotes: “My momma always said you can tell a lot about a person by their shoes, where the go, where they’ve been. I’ve worn lots of shoes, I bet if I think about it real hard I can remember my first pair of shoes.”

Bubba Gump Shrimp & co. in Santa Monica.
Kickass shoe closet
I liked that the setup was in a hotel suite, it was definitely something different and added a more personal touch. The apparels were displayed in the wardrobe, bathroom, shoe closet, and even in a suitcase to make it look like it was someone's apartment.
Pimp bathroom.
Traveling in athletic style.
The Grand Slam Polo collection is cool because it's variation in color, design and cut (the fit is tapered to accentuate the lines of your body). Girls would totally get the shoes to match the polo because it's simple, feminine, easy-to-wear and absolutely comfortable.
My favorite pick from the women's collection is the Burnout Cooldown Tee.
It's a basic, oversized tee that can be worn to the gym or paired with denim jeans for a more casual look. You just can't go wrong with a plain white tee (it's also a little see-thru which makes it kinda sexy), I love it!
Some other favorites from the Spring/Summer 2011 collection. Awesome statement tees, striped terry playsuit, Nike Skysail Slip (in Black), Nike Gladiateur II (in Purple) and Nike Tenkay Slip (in Red).

CLIVE Magazine Cover Shoot for Feb 2011

Some behind-the-scenes photos from the covershoot for CLIVE Magazine (Feb 2011 issue)! I had so much fun at this shoot. They used a projector to project images against the white wall to create different backgrounds and feel.

The wardrobe was also very unique and I especially liked this one:

Voluminous hair!

Editor of CLIVE magazine, Robert Chan.

With the CLIVE crew.

With my make-up artist, Ming.

Thanks for having me on the cover, CLIVE!

“There’s nothing wrong with having a strong habit of exercise but when it becomes destructive to your mental well being and the rest of your life, you really have a sense check your priorities. I proudly pig out on Nando’s (with extra fries) once a week because you know what, it makes me a little happy! Extra hot sauce people, it’s to die for.”

“Anything can be addictive if that’s all you live for. If you live for someone, you’ll feel ‘addicted’ and end up being too ‘clingy’ which is bad for a relationship. Same with chocolate, you can be addicted to it and crave for it everyday to the detriment of your health, but the difference is, chocolates are good with relationships.”
